Trauma therapy & EMDR
Trauma is something that happened to you, not something wrong with you. It can leave the body on high alert long after the danger has passed, showing up as anxiety, flashbacks, numbness, low mood or difficulty trusting people.
How we work
We use approaches with a strong evidence base for trauma, chosen to fit the person rather than a fixed model:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), recommended by NICE for post-traumatic stress disorder
Art psychotherapy, for experiences that are hard to put into words
DBT skills for managing intense emotions
Body-based (somatic) work to help the nervous system settle
Three phases
Most trauma work follows three broad phases. They often overlap, and we go at your pace.
Safety and stabilisation – building ways to feel steadier day to day, before going near difficult memories.
Processing – working through the memories that still feel live, with EMDR or creative methods.
Reconnection – rebuilding confidence, relationships and a sense of who you are beyond what happened.
Who this is for
Adults and young people living with PTSD, complex PTSD, childhood abuse or neglect, loss, or a single frightening event such as an accident or assault.
